 Rtn. Angsuman Bandyopadhyay, District Governor for 2011-2012 is a Charter Member of RC New Ballygunge, a Major Donor and life member of 4-way Test Association of India. He was Club President in 1999-2000 when RI Director Elect Shekhar Mehta was the District Governor. He served the District as Co-Chairman, Chairman, Convener, Zonal Coordinator of various Committees including CLE, RCC, RYLA, Membership, Publications, District Awards and also served as Assistant Governor - Dream Projects, twice. He was Consultant, Social Mobilization, India National Polio Plus Committee of Rotary International in 2003-04 & 2004-05 for RI Dist. 3240 & 3290 and played a vital role in bringing UNICEF, WHO, State & Central Government and various NGOs under one roof for Polio Eradication. He worked closely with RI President Elect Kalyan Banerjee in various Rotary Assignments since 1998.
Rtn Angsuman was adjudged as Outstanding Club Secretary & Club President, received RI President & District Governor’s Citation, Outstanding Rotarian Award - every year, Polio Plus Recognition Certificates from INPPC, Calcutta Police, KMC, UNICEF, WHO, Outstanding District Co-Chairman & Outstanding District Chairman (5 times), Outstanding Club and District Official (several times), Rotarian of the Year, Officer of the Month, Outstanding Service Award, First Prize in District Rota Quiz, Centennial Star of the District & Outstanding Assistant Governor (twice). The District Directory in 2008-09 published during his Chairmanship was widely appreciated. Always available, energetic, approachable, determined yet very simple, he is best known for his ever smiling, devoted, dedicated and down to earth approach to Rotary & hands on service to the community at grass root levels and also for his indepth Rotary Knowledge.
Widely travelled in India and abroad, Rtn. Angsuman did his Graduation from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, Degree in Law from Calcutta University and Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IMM, Kolkata. He was a keen Sportsman and outstanding NCC Cadet. He started his own manufacturing unit at the age of 21 and later shifted to Project and Management Consultancy and formed his own consultancy firm. He is instrumental in establishing hundreds of manufacturing, servicing & trading units, other business establishments and service industries including Higher Educational Institutions, Hotels and Hospitals all over India. He also acted as advisor to a number of philanthropic and religious organisations for their Educational and Research Projects.
Rtn. Angsuman is involved with Chambers of Commerce, State & Central Govt. Bodies, Export Promotion Councils and Corporate Houses as Member, Director and Advisor. He also served as Faculty Member to a number of Management Institutions and Entrepreneurship Development Programme. A core family man, Rtn. Angsuman is married to Jaya, a PHF, who was also a student of Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan and is a Professor of Economics. Their only daughter Adrija (who is also a PHF) is a Computer Engineer working with IBM. They are popularly known as the “Singing Family” of the District. |
